For the past 30 years, Nayaswami Savitri Simpson has been an Ananda Sangha minister, counselor, and staff teacher at Ananda’s Expanding Light Retreat Center and several of Ananda’s branch communities, offering classes and seminars on Hatha Yoga, yoga philosophy, and meditation skills. She is well-known for her clear, down-to earth, and humorous presentations. Savitri was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to her association with Ananda, she was a teacher and seminar organizer for the Peaceable Kingdom Organic Plant Institute of Washington, Texas. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baylor University, Waco Texas. Her majors were English and History, with a minor in Secondary Education that earned her a teaching certificate. In addition to her primary devotion to yoga, meditation, and all related subjects, she is a musician, herb gardener, gourmet vegetarian cook, and nature lover.
She has taught hundreds of classes, workshops, and seminars on the chakras. She is the author of two books, “The Chakras Workbook” and “Chakras for Starters”, published by Crystal Clarity Publishers of Nevada City, CA. She has released a CD called “Chakras for Starters”, with music and guided visualizations for each chakra. In a video/DVD called “Yoga Postures to Awaken the Chakras”, Savitri also gives clear and concise explanations for what the chakras are and what they do. For many years, she was director of the Ananda Yoga Teacher Training Program and is presently co-director of the Ananda Meditation Teacher Training Program at The Expanding Light Yoga and Meditation Retreat near Nevada City, CA.. Savitri lives with her husband, Sudarshan, in their dome-home at Ananda Village near Nevada City.
