The arts of Herbal Medicine and Nutrition are vast. Food is the best medicine (or the worst poison) and there are specific herbs that can heal any illness. This workshop explores the self-treatment of a number of common structural injuries & ailments through diet and herbal medicine. Injuries and degeneration of the structural tissues of the body (cartilage, tendon, ligament, and bone) are often quite difficule to heal.
While most healing takes place through the blood, the structural tissues are primarily avascular, meaning they lack blood supply. Therefore healing and supporting these tissues is a process of mineralization – like a stalgmite forming in a cave. We will discuss the common causes and related anatomy of several common structural ailments (strains, sprains, tendonitis, rheumatism, arthritis, osteoporosis), and explore basic herbal remedies and whole-food diets that facilitate healing. The workshop incorporates medicinal plants native to the North Eastern United States.
